Well one pair of Sprints and three pairs of Classics later.. I finally gave in and bought a pair of Performas! Then I exchanged for the Performa Janes. I won't be wearing them out of the house at all for a while, we're flooded here in eastern NC but they are super comfy and cute.

@ Leisa, what resources are you basing your statements on? I'd be curious. If the kangaroos were meat animals just as cows in America, then it's better to utilize all of the animal rather than waste the skin. As in anything, there are tasteful approaches and those that haven't a bit of disdain for sorry practices. Finger pointing can turn into a very nasty game...

Well Ted, looks as if your company has little regard for what happens to the Kangaroos so you can get the leather for the shoes. These beautiful Kangaroos are shot at night while peacefully grazing. If it is a female shot , the shooter rips the joey out of her pouch and crushes it's head in. If she has an out of pouch Joey it hops away in panic while it's mpther is hung up on the truck. The Joey will be predared upon or die from Myopathy due to stress. They call out in complete panic for their mother. It is a pitiful, disgusting Industry and should be shut down.

Thanks for the reply, what you've said confirms what I was thinking but I wanted to be sure. I think they'd be just fine for what I'm looking for (minimal outdoors, some sidewalk/walk to car time).

Keep up the great work!

Hi Andrea,
The reason that they are not recommended for outdoor use is because of the lack of rubber sole on some parts of the shoe's bottom. The areas that touch the ground on your real foot have a thin rubber sole. The rest of the Performa / Moc does not. Wearing them outdoors would increase the chance for the leather to get dirty and for the shoe to wear our more quickly, but that depends completely on the surfaces you are walking on. Dry, clean, smooth surfaces like you would find in a home would be just fine. Rough sidewalks or dirty streets however would probably not be a great combination for these. The Moc and Performa are designed around comfort and thus are much softer and less resistant to wear compared to the rest of the Vibram FiveFingers lineup. I would say that if you are prepared to accept a shorter life span, then wear them outdoors. Otherwise the classics might be a better choice for a similar style. I hope that helps.

Granted I have read the performas are for indoor use only, do you recommend against some outdoor use? As in just to the car, running errands, etc? Because I do a lot of messy things outdoors in my sprints they are constantly needing to be washed or dried; I'd love a very minimal pair that I can wear on a normal day (I'm a nanny, we are indoors most of the day)

No, The Performa and Moc are indoor only. The KSO, Sprint, and KSO Trek are perfect for running however. The Nike Free shoes are not a typical minimalist shoe. They are more flexible than a typical running shoe, but have a high heel.

Hmm interesting... these aren't really for running are they? They do look super comfortable though.

I love the nike free's after reading that review comparing it to barefoot running.
