Vibram FiveFingers: Product Availability, the Bikila, and What’s Next straight from CEO Tony Post

Tony Post, CEO of Vibram FiveFingers wrote a personal message to the FiveFingers world of fans. Here is a summary:

There has been some speculation about Vibram FiveFingers roll in the limiting of product to create demand. Tony responded: “It’s never been our desire to hold back manufacturing so that we can create more demand. It’s quite the opposite in fact – we have expanded our manufacturing capacity by opening 2 new factories this year, and we have 2 more factories now in testing; we are flying all product from the factories to the warehouse”

Vibram is now shipping 6x more stock than at this time last year. By the second quarter they expect to shop 10x more than last year! To compensate for this they have opened two new factories and two more are in the testing phase.

The Bikila will be hitting stores in late April with 25,000 shipped. We are all excited about the release of the Bikila. Runners around the world will welcome this new FiveFingers platform.

With the help of online petitions and feedback from members of the FiveFingers community Vibram will also be releasing the Trek for women. It is now in production and will be arriving in May.

The Performa Jane is also arriving soon but no firm time was given. These products will be appearing on the Vibram site in the coming weeks.

To those new to running he had this advise: “do your research, consult your physician, and transition gradually. Learning to run naturally, using a forefoot strike in FiveFingers, is a process. You will use new muscles, new biomechanics, and you need to give your body time to adjust and adapt”. We couldn’t agree more!

All reviews are as factual as possible. In an effort to be transparent and ethical, we will point out any defects found, even if these do not affect the usability of the product. Not all defects will be present in final production shoes as we are sometimes offered “seconds” or pre-release products in an effort to provide you with reviews in a timely manor. In the event that serious issues are found with a review sample we will give every opportunity for the manufacturer to replace to explain the review samples before the final review is released. We never accept payments for reviews. We do not guarantee a good review for any products sent to us. We do not review products that do not claim to be minimalist or “barefoot like” unless we receive a significant number of requests from readers or listeners.

  3. Ok. I’m currently in the US where prices are approx half of the prices in Sweden. Going back on April 21 and was hoping I could bring a pair of Bikila.
Anyway, Last night I walked around in Las Vegas in my old VFF Sprint. Now that did create a lot of joy. Several people even stopped me and asked if they could take photos. There definitely is a big market for these.. ;-)
