Chinese Host Wang Han Seen Eating Then Spitting Out Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodles He Endorses
In China, there’s a brand of pickled cabbage beef instant noodles that is synonymous with popular host Wang Han, 47.
It goes back to a famous commercial he once shot for the brand, where he was seen slurping up the noodles with as much relish as a food blogger at a paid restaurant review. Sales for Lao Tan Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodles were said to have skyrocketed after Wang Han’s endorsement and it soon became the gold standard for similar products.
But we all know that all that glitters is not gold.
The brand recently found itself mired in scandal after a news report claimed that Lao Tan Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodles uses sauerkraut that have been manufactured in the most unhygienic way.
The report showed pictures of men in boots wading around thigh-deep in a murky pool of what we assume to be pickled cabbage. They can also be seen smoking and flicking the cigarette butts into the sauerkraut.
Not the most appetizing image to have when you’re shovelling said pickled cabbage in your mouth.
Following the exposé, supermarkets swiftly pulled the product off their shelves.
Soon after, an old behind-the-scenes video of Wang Han at a shoot for Lao Tan Pickled Cabbage Beef Noodles surfaced online.

In it, Wang Han can be seen looking at a camera and devouring the noodles like it’s the best thing he’s ever eaten.
Then, as soon as the camera cuts away, he spits out the noodles into a bucket at his feet. The clip raised many questions: Did he not like how it tasted? Was he just – gasp! – acting like it was yummy?
Now netizens are saying that Wang Han has long known that the noodles are not clean and that he only endorsed the product for money (well…) and thus, is an “unethical person”. Some netizens have even gone as far as to petition for Wang Han to be cancelled.
While there are people saying that Wang Han shouldn’t be punished for being a spokesperson, there are those who believe that the brand's popularity is solely because of Wang Han, and that he is why many actually “fell in love” with eating pickled cabbage beef noodles.
