Eddie Kwan, 59, Leaves TVB; Will Split His Time Between Hongkong & China
He's been working with TVB since 1981.
Hongkong actor Eddie Kwan, 59, has left TVB after decades with the broadcaster. He first became an actor with the station in 1981, but was fired in 1995 after acting in Ch 8 drama Sparks of Life without TVB's permission. He also starred in Ch 8's Dr Justice 2 the same year.
He only returned to TVB in 2002, and has been with the station ever since.
The Kwoks And What will be his last TVB drama as a full-time artiste.
Of his decision to leave his long-time employer, Eddie said: “I can now split my time between Hongkong and China [because] I’m no longer directly managed by [TVB] (…) But I think there should still be opportunities for me to work [with TVB]. ”
Eddie continued, “I wanted to go [to China] at the end of October for work, but I also want to return to Hongkong in December in order to celebrate Christmas with my family. If I travel back and forth in the next few months, I would have to go through quarantine [multiple times], so we’re still trying to come to a consensus about the filming schedule.”
Last week, it was reported that Eddie's 26-year-old Miss Hong Kong 2021 finalist daughter Fabienne is joining TVB, and Eddie was asked if those plans have changed now that he has left the station.
Eddie said: “If she really wants to develop a career [in showbiz], it’s best that she learns [from TVB] before venturing out (…) I’ll let her suffer for a bit [in Hongkong] first.”
