Eric Suen Slammed For Setting A Bad Example For Kids After He Posts Vid Of Him ‘Robbing’ A Jewellery Store
Is this the same Eric Suen who’s been making big bucks as a live streamer in China?
‘90s pop idol Eric Suen, 48, has been raking in crazy big bucks ever since he started focusing on his career as a live streamer in China. According to reports, he can earn nearly HK$1mil (S$175,000) in gifts with just a two-hour broadcast.
So why was he recently caught robbing a jewellery store on camera?
A while ago, a video of a man barging into a jewellery store and threatening the terrified-looking shop assistant with what looks like a gun started circulating online. The thief was shown making off with a large number of gold bars.
What made this particular crime so interesting were the words “Singer Eric Suen exposed sneaking into a jewellery shop late at night” stamped over the clip along with a photo of the Hongkong star.
Needless to say, netizens were baffled at why a popular celebrity would need to resort to such a desperate act, and all kinds of speculations spread like wildfire on the internet.
When the rumours got too out of hand, an inside source came forward to clarify that the video was actually a short film created by Eric himself to promote his live stream channel.
Sure enough, another clip of the scene shows Eric grabbing a hairdryer — nope, not a gun — and rushing into the jewellery store, hoping that the staff would allow him to plug it in somewhere so he can style his hair in preparation for an upcoming broadcast.
The ‘gold bars’ that he was shown ‘stealing’ in the CCTV footage were also revealed to be chocolates, which he happily shared with the sales assistant.
The truth behind the dramatic video was met with mixed reactions from netizens.
On one hand, there were those who praised the short film for its creativity and for standing out amongst other promotional videos seen in the past. After all, it certainly succeeded in getting people to talk about it, right?
However, some also accused Eric of going too far with this publicity stunt, which could potentially set a negative example for children. Eric has yet to respond to the controversy.
