Harrison Ford To Join MCU As Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross In Captain America 4

It’s official: Harrison Ford has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Variety has reported Ford will star as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, a character previously played by the late William Hurt, in 2024’s Captain America: New World Order, with Anthony Mackie in the eponymous role.

Rumours had been circulating for weeks that Marvel was eyeing Ford to take over the part, which Hurt portrayed in four MCU movies — 2008’s The Incredible Hulk, 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, and 2021’s Black Widow.

Hurt passed away in March this year at age of 71.

Don't mess with him: William Hurt's first appearance as General (later Secretary) Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross was in 2008's The Incredible Hulk. His final MCU role was in 2021's Black Widow.

Part of MCU’s Phase 5 line-up, New World Order will pick up after the events of last year’s Disney series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Julius Onah (The Cloverfield Paradox) is directing the sequel, expected to drop in cinemas in May 2024.

No word on whether Ford will appear in Thunderbolts (even though IMDB  says he is), Marvel’s anti-hero team-up slated to follow New World Order two months later.

Ford is no stranger to mega-franchises. He’d headlined the Star Wars, Indiana Jones and the Jack Ryan movies. (He also had a supporting role in The Expendables 3.)

Ford, 80, will return as the fedora-wearing, whip-throwing archaeologist in the fifth Indiana Jones instalment, in cinemas in June 2023.
