Highest Earning Taiwanese Singers In 2022; Cyndi Wang Makes List Thanks To Renewed Popularity
Now that we're on the last day of 2022, it's time to see who were the stars who rang in the most ka-ching in the past year.
As usual, we see names like Mandopop King Jay Chou, 43, and pop singer Jam Hsiao, 35, making the cut.
But taking the year by storm was Taiwanese sweetheart Cyndi Wang, 40, who saw a resurgence in popularity after contesting in hit Chinese variety show Sisters Who Make Waves 3.
Jay Chou
The Mandopop King is consistently one of Asia's biggest earners.
This year, Jay secured a spot on the list after he released his long-awaited album Greatest Works of Art, which sold more than five million digital and physical copies.
Album sales alone generated a whopping TW$700mil (S$30.6mil) in revenue.
On top of that, he also had two global endorsements as well as seven commercials in China, which totalled a very fat TW$380mil (S$16.6mil) paycheck for him.
Jam Hsiao
The Taiwanese singer was said to have raked in at least TW$60mil (S$2.6) from his six endorsements for companies such as Ogenki Energy Drink and Guangzhou Zhujiang Brewery Group.
On top of that, Jam also has six co-branding businesses, which include a Japanese restaurant, bubble tea brand At Tea, a noodle shop, an instant noodle brand, a shoe brand as well as an alcohol business.
Together with his appearances on variety shows like Jungle Voice 3, Twinkle Love, The Feast, Memoon Player and Our Song, as well as concert gigs and live streams, Jam was reported to have made at least TW$340mil (S$14.8mil) in 2022.
Cyndi Wang
Ever since she recreated her iconic schoolgirl uniform look from 2005 hit song 'Ai Ni' on the first episode of Sisters Who Makes Waves 3, Cyndi's name has trended on Chinese platforms such as Weibo.
After Cyndi went on to win the competition, she even had her own variety show Promise For You, a spin-off of Sisters Who Makes Waves 3, with fellow contestants Hong Kong singers Gillian Chung and Charlene Choi and Chinese actress Wu Jinyan.
Since then, Cyndi has bagged 10 endorsements deals, such as Satine fresh milk, FAB skincare, Coca Cola. She has also made appearances on Chinese variety shows like It Sounds Incredible, Descending on the Training Room and Hello Saturday.
With her unmissable exposure in the Chinese market and now sky-high asking price, Cyndi reportedly made close to TW$100mil (S$4.4mil) in 2022 alone.
Ella Chen
The 41-year-old former S.H.E member is another one of those stars who've been raking in the big bucks thanks to her many endorsement deals. Remember how she was last year's Queen of Endorsements, earning at least TW$100mil (S$4.6mil)?
Ella is currently the ambassador for eight brands, such as bag line Robinmay and hair product Elastine.
The singer-actress also started her ELLA SHOW tour, starred in the movie Summer, and participated in variety shows such as Law Less Kitchen and Atom Boyz in 2022.
According to reports, Ella, who's currently filming an upcoming drama, made approximately TW$100mil (S$4.4mil) in the past year.
