Vincent’s newborn is nicknamed “Bumblebee” ‘cos his Chinese surname ‘Weng’ sounds like a buzzing bee. “The child has brought a lot of joy to our family. These few days have really been very tiring. But it’s very worth it. My heart is full of love that I want to give my child. I look forward to seeing the baby every day. When I’m at work, I just want to go home to see my son. Usually, when I get home, he’s sleeping and I don’t want to disturb him. So after my wife feeds him milk and he needs to burp, I’d grab the chance to do it lah. The best time of my day is when after I burp him, I get to carry him for a while before he goes to sleep.

“When we were still in the hospital after the delivery, I tried to do things on my own. In the hospital, you just need to press a bell, and the nurse will come in to change the diaper and do everything. So on the first day, I let them do it all. But from the second day, I told all the nurses, “Can I change his diaper? And if I do it wrongly, can you tell me?” Maybe it’s ’cos of the nature of my work — I’m a coach and I believe in hands-on training. So the more I practise, the better I become. And by the time my friends like Sora [Ma] saw me with the baby at the surprise party, they said, “You look like a very experienced dad.” On our last two days in the hospital, I volunteered to change his diapers and wipe his butt after he pooped. When former Ch 8 actor Vincent Ng got married to his dream woman last July after a whirlwind romance, he said that he'd leave [it] to fate when it comes to having kids. Well, as fate would have it, the 42-year-old wushu coach and his 40-year-old wife, Mei Ling, welcomed their baby boy into the world on August 30. We speak with the first-time dad over the phone to find out more.
