Jeff Chang Seen Waiting Awkwardly By The Red Carpet After Host Calls The Wrong Name

Taiwanese singer Jeff Chang, 55, has one of the most recognisable voices in Asian pop. Back in the '90s, he was also one of music's biggest names, though one wouldn't think that way judging by what went down at the recent China TV Drama Awards. 

Jeff was spotted by the start of the red carpet waiting for his name to be called.

However, instead of introducing him, the host said: "Next up, let's invite [Chinese singer] Yan Xujia."

A confused Jeff was then seen repeatedly turning his head around to make sense of what was happening.

To make things more awkward, Xujia did not appear after his name was called, which then led the host to abruptly cut to commercial instead.

And yes, Jeff was still waiting by the red carpet at this point.

The faux pas did not sit well with netizens, many of whom went on to criticise the host for being "unprofessional".

Another netizen, however, claimed that it was actually the backstage crew who failed to relay the latest information to the host. 

According to said netizen, Xujia was indeed supposed to go on the red carpet before Jeff, but for some reason did not manage to get in position in time. 

The backstage crew then decided to let Jeff go on first in order to not delay the show, but did not manage to inform the host, and that was how Jeff eventually ended up in that awkward situation.
