Malaysian Actor Fauzi Nawawi Apologises For Saying He Had To "Control His Lust" While Shooting Rape Scene
The actor was slammed for his wildly inappropriate remarks and for naming the actress he shot the scene with.
Malaysian actor Fauzi Nawawi has apologised for his inappropriate remarks on shooting rape scenes after a clip of his interview resurfaced on Tuesday (Oct 19).
The 48-year-old made the comments on an episode of talk show Rumah No. 107 which aired in June.
During the show, the host asked Fauzi, who is best known for playing villains, if he preferred doing robbery or rape scenes.
Fauzi replied: “When people say I look like a rapist, I feel more excited to act out the scene. In the [2007] film Anak Halal, there was a scene in which I was raping Raja Farah. She was wearing tight shorts and her legs were spread out. The crew was all watching us, we were all sweating. I was trying my best to control my tiredness and lust.”
He added that he had to control his facial expression to avoid looking like he was enjoying the process.
Raja Farah Aziz's family had reportedly requested for the scene to be removed after watching the preview. The actress was not even 20 at the time.
Netizens have criticised Fauzi, as well as the four male hosts and guests who were present, for making light of rape.
Raja Farah also expressed her disappointment in her co-star, saying his remarks were “wrong on all levels”.
“I feel very vulnerable and disrespected by what was said in the clip. I hope those who were involved in the conversation will apologise personally,” Farah said in an Instagram video.
“This is disrespectful towards women. It is unnecessary. Would [Fauzi] speak to his sisters or his mother this way?” added Farah’s husband.
Women’s rights group All Women’s Action Society also condemned the men for “talking about performing rape like it’s a kink”.
“Rape is NOT a joke! And ‘pleasant’ should be the last thing in mind when talking about it,” AWAS tweeted.
On Tuesday night (Oct 19), Fauzi posted a four-minute video on Instagram apologising to Raja Farah and her family for his “ignorant” ways.
He also said that after the shoot, he had asked for the sensitive parts of the conversation to be removed, but the production team refused.
“I want to apologise to everyone who has been affected by the video, especially to Raja Farah, her husband, and her family. When we were shooting this segment, I had asked the production staff to censor the sensitive parts because whenever we talk among men, we cannot really control ourselves, and I accidentally let Raja Farah’s name slip,” he said. “It is my fault, I was ignorant, and I will do better next time.”
