NDP 2019 Theme Song: The Easter Eggs You Probably Missed
Twenty-seven artists, a mash-up of two songs, and countless surprises in the 2019 National Day Parade theme song.
If you’re watching and re-watching the video for this year’s National Day Parade theme song, you’re not alone. It is, after all, an epic one that brims with heaps of celebs, Easter eggs to find, and questions to figure out.
The song, titled ‘Our Singapore’, is a mash-up of two previous NDP songs: JJ Lin’s 2015 tune of the same title, and Stefanie Sun’s ‘We Will Get There’ from 2002. It’s sung by, not one, not two, but a whopping 27 local musicians of several generations, including JJ and Stef (obvs), Dick Lee, Kit Chan, Taufik Batisah, The Sam Willows and veterans like Tracy Huang and Rahimah Rahim.
Lest you spend your entire day trying to spot all the Easter eggs in the MV, we’ve done the heavy lifting for you.
The usual suspects were featured prominently in beautifully-shot close-ups, but we derived satisfaction from spotting familiar faces in the group shots in the Royston Tan-directed video that features over 300 performers, aged three to 93. We see you, Sara Wee of local band 53A and Jack (of Jack and Rai), and elsewhere, Alfred Sim was singing his heart out in the crowd as well.
Hello, Ang Peng Siong and Joseph Schooling.
While most of the featured artists were donned in their best red and white outfits, rapper Shigga Shay bucked the trend and turned up in a blue jacket and matching hair. That said, look closely and you’ll realise he was actually in red trousers, though it’s easy to miss since he wasn’t doing handstands.
All that’s missing is Mark.
There were faces that we haven’t seen in a while, like Tracy Huang (above). Not sure who the 67-year-old singer is? Ask your dad.
Now, many have likened the ‘Our Singapore’ video to the Avengers of NDP songs. Anyone who’s anyone is in it, right? Let’s have a quick look. Dick Lee and Kit Chan? Check.
Stefanie Sun was there, obviously.
There was no way JJ Lin could miss out on this.
The Sam Willows. But of course.
(from left) Charlie Lim, Aisyah Aziz, Taufik Batisah and Joanna Dong joined in the fun too.
Joi Chua and Shabir are ready for their close-ups.
Which begs the question: Where were Tanya Chua and Nathan Hartono?
