Stuff To Watch This Week (Apr 24-30, 2023)
Jaalilo Gymkhaana
It’s 2023 and Kumar still doesn’t have his own Netflix comedy special. Go figure. Meanwhile, he has his own chat show (the title is slang for ‘having fun’) where his celeb guests include sisters Eswari and Shamini Gunasagar and Oli968 DJs Ravi G and Haleema. And because it’s Kumar (remember that time he was on Pressing Issues?), expect things to be, well, salty. Good thing you can choose between the PG or M18 version. In Tamil, with English subtitles. Watch the first episode here:
Risqué Business: Japan
And speaking of NSFW content, this Korean talk show from Netflix follows comedian Shin Dong-Youp and singer Sung Si-Kyung as they head to Land of the Rising Sun and chat with porno actors, drag performers and male escorts, and learn what a day in their life is like. If you’re planning a R-rated vacay in Japan, start here.

Love & Death
David E Kelley’s latest is a seven-part 1980s-set true-crime series about a Texas housewife (Elizabeth Olsen) who is accused of killing her friend (Lily Rabe) with an axe. Some friend she is, tsk. Patrick Fugit and Jesse Plemons co-star as their respective spouses. The drama will launch with a three-ep premiere, with the rest dropping on a weekly basis.

Citadel
Not a show about the American hedge fund but an action series from MCU alums Anthony and Joe Russo, starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas as operatives who had their memories erased when their agency disbanded. When an evil force threatens world stability, the ex-spies have to start remembering who they used to be. The US300 million (S$400 mil) show is sold as a global show, with a few local spin-offs — including one in Italy and another in India — already in the works.

Peter Pan & Wendy
A month before The Little Mermaid arrives in cinemas, Disney is dropping its live-action remake of its 1953 animated classic and adaptation of J M’s Barrie’s timeless tale, starring Alexander Molony as Peter Pan, Ever Anderson (aka Milla Jovovich’s daughter) as Wendy, and Jude Law as Captain Hook. Welcome back to Neverland.

Project Wolf Hunting
This Korean horror-actioner stars Café Minamdang’s Seo In-Guk as plays the leader of a group of cutthroat convicts plotting to escape a prison-transport cargo ship while en route from the Philippines to South Korea. Unbeknownst to them, they’ve also unleashed a monster from the bottom deck. Think Con Air (Sea?) meets Dog Soldiers. Expect plenty of gore.

Post Mortem with Mick Garris
And speaking of gore, Irish screenwriter and director Lee Cronin is in the hot seat to discuss the challenges of making Evil Dead Rise, the fifth instalment of Sam Raimi’s iconic demon-possession franchise, now showing in cinemas. Listen to the podcast here:
