TVB Actor Telford Wong Bought His Home With The Money He Won At The TVB Anniversary Gala Show In 2018
How awesome is that?
TVB actor Telford Wong Ting Fung, 33, got really lucky at the TVB Anniversary Gala Show in 2018.
No, he didn't win Best Actor or anything, though some might say that he was actually the night's biggest winner.
You see, he walked home with the Anniversary Gala's grand prize of HK$1mil (S$174.5K). [Ed: think of it like your company's annual D&D's lucky draw just a lot more lavish and glamorous.]
According to reports, the prize money was made up of S$89K cash and S$85.5K worth of prizes.
Two years after his win, Telford finally used the money to buy a three-bedroom apartment in the satellite town of Tin Shui Wai.
Appearing on TVB variety show How to Buy a House 2, Telford said: “I went with my mum to view houses. I liked one place that we went to and she would speak to me about buying an apartment there every other day. She said that it was good to invest [in property] if I had nowhere else to spend the money on (…) I decided to go with it after mulling over the decision for about two weeks.”
Calling his new crib his dream home , Telford said that being away from the city centre means he gets to enjoy a scenic view of the surrounding lush greenery from his balcony.
He also predicts that home prices there will appreciate in the coming years, and that he would be able to sell his flat for a profit then.
Turns out, Telford's mum has had a huge impact on his financial decisions, especially when it comes to saving money.
“I usually save half of what I earn,” he revealed. “But if I want to invest in something, I’ll do so as long as I think it’s a good decision. If you think about it for too long, you’ll end up dragging it for a year or two and [by the time you want to do it], it would be too late.”
